Still her heart beats

She smiles for the camera, face all aglow,

to show them all what they think they know.

How happy she looks,so full and alive,

but little by little you’ve watched her die.

there are no wounds,to tell the tale,

only her eyes so empty and pale.

you have to look closely to see what’s inside,

her feelings run deep but just can’t seem to hide.

once she had spirit, not only a pulse,

she used to find rapture in those she held close.

it took awhile to put out her flame,

not all at once, though who was to blame?

the bane of your words, have taken their toll,

once spoken aloud she could never feel whole.

she used to know love, she used to feel peace,

you took that away too but still her heart beats.

she can’t understand it, the way she still breathes,

how her body still feels, and her veins can still bleed.

so here she is, this is where she will stay,

awaiting her penance though she no longer prays.
